Eight miles from the blue Pacific Ocean, San Luis Obispo
is in the center of the central coast of California. Set between Santa Barbara and Big Sur, this is one of the oldest communities in the state.
"Slo town" is home to the architects of Paragon Designs and is often the
subject of national magazines. Our town began in 1772, when
Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa was established.
A 1999 article in Sunset
magazine featured San Luis Obispo as one of the best small downtowns in the west. The magazine dazzled the eyes with a
pictorial illustrating the annual "I Madonnari" street
painting and community group fund raising event at the Mission.
Our Central Coast Wine Classic and the
Thursday Night Farmer's Market has also been displayed in
Sunset articles. Money
magazine also ranked our city as one of the top 10 places in the west to retire.

connecting Los Angeles, San Francisco and the far east.

All types of art are here in full bloom: original theater
productions at the Christopher Cohan Performing Arts Center, local musicians,
painters and a full schedule of entertainment and cultural events including the annual Mozart Festival.
